911 Hot Designs Administrator    March 7, 2012    No Comments

pTuesday proved to be a busy day for the members of the WFD who were called to Waldwick twice for mutual aid responses in Tower Ladder 241.ppAt approximately 8am the Waldwick Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at 20 Franklin Turnpike with a smoke condition in the building. Upon the arrival of Assistant Chief Flatten 640 he requested his 2nd alarm units to the scene to assist due to the smoke condition in the large medical office facility.ppChief Rose 230 and Tower Ladder 241 OIC DC Vanderplaat responded into the scene to assist. Upon the arrival of 241 the crew went to the roof to assist in checking the rooftop HVAC Systems.nbsp Upon further investigation it was determined that the smoke and odor were emanating from a Cat Scan Machine inside the facility that was malfunctioning.nbsp A representative from the manufacturer arrived on scene and shut off the machine and all units returned to service within the hour.ppAt approximately 245pm while the Waldwick Fire Department was checking an activated fire alarm at their public library a nearby store owner walked up and reported that the stores across the street were filling with smoke.ppAsst. Chief Flatten 640 dispatched all Waldwick units to the strip mall on East Prospect Street to investigate.nbsp Upon initial investigation crews located moderate smoke in several stores while a simultaneous 911 call came in reporting a kitchen fire at Andreas Restaurant located in that strip mall.ppAsst. Chief Flatten requestednbspa NORCON Activationnbsp and a full 2nd alarm assignment to the scene.ppChief Rose 230 and Tower Ladder 241OIC DC Vanderplaat both responded into the scene.ppUpon entering the restaurant the Waldwick crews encountered thick black smoke and heat. Crews stretched a line to the rear of the business where the fire was located and began knocking down all visible fire.nbsp Crews were able to knock down the fire visible in the kitchen area while crews went to work opening up the roof above and adjoining walls looking for extension.nbspppThe crew from 241 assisted by crews from the Allendale Fire Department went to the roof for a vent to assist interior crews.nbspnbspThrough a well coordinated effort between interior crews and roof teams the fire was contained to the kitchen area with minor extension to one wall in the dining area.ppNice job to everyone who operated at both scenes.ppnbspp
