At 608am Tuesday Morning the Wyckoff Fire Department was dispatched to a reported smoke condition in a residence on Heather Lane. The initial dispatch assignment had Wyckoff Chief 230 Deputy Chief 239 responding and apparatus from Co1 2 3. Upon the first police officers arrival at the scene the officer reported a heavy smoke condition in the garage area. Once this report was received by Wyckoff Police Communications Center a mutual aid engine company from Waldwick was dispatched as per department protocols. Chief Murphy 230 arrived moments after the first police officer and established Heather Lane Command. Due to the construction characteristics of this multiple dwelling townhouse complex command ordered a re-dispatch of Wyckoff companies for additional manpower on scene. Deputy Chief Brock 239 arrived on scene and handled all interior operations. Engine 231 arrived on scene momentarily and took side A of the structure. The first due crews started a primary search for the cause of the odor and haze. Once crews entered the structure it was quickly determined that there was only a slight haze and not a heavy smoke condition as initial reports alluded to. Wyckoff Engine 232 arrived on scene and was directed by command to take side B of the structure at the Sprinkler Connection and Engine 233 stood by on the nearby hydrant. Tower 241 and Rescue 242 positioned on side A in case they were needed to assist.As Wyckoff Crews were attempting to locate the origin on the odor and haze Waldwick Engine 631 arrived on scene OIC Capt. Flatten. The Waldwick Crew was sent to assist the crew from Engine 231 in the garage area where the odor seemed to be originating from. Crews determined that the cause was a vehicle parked in the garage that had an electric burning odor emanating from the engine compartment area with visible black soot on the hood areas. The vehicle was removed from the garage and crews were returned to service at 700am. Thanks to the Waldwick Engine Company for their quick response.-249
