In the early hours of Saturday morning at approximately 0200 hours dispatch toned out the Rescue truck for an expedited response to Route 208 North in the Borough of Hawthorne for a motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer and a pickup truck with heavy entrapment. Chief Murphy reported to the Rescue that they were arriving on a Ford F-150 pickp that had struck the rear of a tractor trailer. Both vehicles were moving when the impact occurred. The tractor trailer dragged the pickup approximately 500 feet before slowing to a stop. From the dashboard forward was crushed under the rear of the trailer. The driver was heavily pinned and in serious condition. Hawthorne Rescue was quickly working to extricate the driver. Upon the arrival of Rescue242 members jumped right in and assisted Hawthorne Rescue in their progress. After a short time the driver was removed and taken to the nearby NorthStar landing zone. Crews remained on scene to assist the police department in their investigation. Rescue 242 ultimately was assigned to winch the vehicle from underneath the trailer. At approximately 0510 hrs Rescue242 and Chief Murphy were released from the scene. Both Rescue crews should be commended for the outstanding job they did in effectively woking together and removing the driver in this extremely difficult scene.
