With temperatures reaching the high 90s on Sunday the volunteers had no time to rest logging seven calls for the dayAt 1230 hours dispatch toned out a general alarm assignment for an activated fire alarm on Grandview Avenue. Engine 232 OIC Bn. Zuckerman Engine 235 Tower 241 Engine 233 and Res2cue 242 all responded. Command reported that the activation was caused by a pull station activation.At 1620 hours dispatched toned out a general alarm assignment for a mulch fire on Manor Road. Chief Murphy 230 and Engine 231 OIC Lt. Zivkovich responded. The small fire was extinguished and units returned to service a short time later.At 1720 hours the skys darkened over the Township and the members knew it was only a matter of time before the calls started. At 1727 hours dispatch reported multiple alarm activations in the town due to several lightening strikes in the area. Due to the volume of calls being received at the Wyckoff Police Desk the Wyckoff Fire Department Emergency Operations Center went in service and handled dispatch operations for all pending box assignments.At 1727 hours an activated alarm was received for a business located on Wyckoff Avenue in the business triangle. DC. Brock 239 and Engine 231 OIC Lt. Zivkovich were dispatched to this assignment. Chief Murphy called in service and handled the Area Command for all pending assignments. Crews investigated and reported that the alarm was activated due to storm activity.At 1727 hours an activated alarm was received for a residence on Alex Court. Truck 241 OIC Capt. Vanderplaat-Command Engine 234 OIC Capt. Fisher and Res2cue 242 OIC FF. Pettit responded and reported an alarm malfunction due to storm activity.At 1727 hours an activated alarm was received for the Christian Health Care Center on Sicomac Avenue. Chief Murphy 230 Engine 233 OIC BN. Pruim and Engine 236 OIC DC Baker responded and reported an apparent alarm malfunction due to storm activity.Again at 1727 Hours an activated alarm was received for a residence on Wyckoff Avenue. Co 2 units were assigned to handle this assignment with Engine 232 OIC BN Zuckerman-Command and Engine 235 responding. Crews investigated and reported an apparent alarm malfunction due to storm activity.At 1806 hours Chief Murphy 230 Tower 241 OIC Capt. Vanderplaat Engine 231 Capt. Fisher Res2cue 242 OIC Lt. Zivkovich and Engine 233 OIC DC Baker were dispatched to West Stevens Avenue on a report of a tree on a residence with an electrical condition in the home. Crews investigated and reported that a lightening strike in close proximity to the home had taken the tree down and caused an electrical surge within the home. Units were released and back in service 1830 hours.-249
