A BUSY DAY FOR THE WFD

911 Hot Designs Administrator    March 26, 2008    No Comments

The members of the Wyckoff Fire Department found themselves very busy Wednesday. The day started off with the department putting our Brother Ed Kirksey to rest after 67 years of service to the Wyckoff Fire Department and the residents of Wyckoff. Eddie was always know for his colorful stories and his love of the departments oldest piece of apparatus the 1904 Knot Steamer. Thank you to all the members who came out to support the family during this difficult time. Special thanks to the mutual aid towns that provided coverage during the wake and funeral services.Just as the members were returning back to firehouse after this mornings funeral dispatch toned out a general alarm assignment for the Tower Ladder to respond on the mutual aid assignment in the Borough of Franklin Lakes. Tower Ladder 241 was dispatched to respond to the High Mountain Road School for an activated fire alarm as per the departments occupied school policy. Chief Murphy 230 and Tower 241 OIC BN Rose responded and assisted the Franklin Lakes Crew in determining that the alarm was activated due to a malfunction. At approximately 515pm dispatch toned out a general alarm assignment for a mutual aid request to the Borough of Franklin Lakes. Franklin Lakes Command was requesting one engine for the mutual aid assignment due to a large brush fire off of Indian Trail Drive. Chief Murphy 230 and Engine 231 OIC DC Brock responded to assist. While enroute Franklin Lakes redirected the mutual aid engine to a reported oven fire on Navaho Trail. The Chief and Engine 231 called out on scene and assisted the Franklin Lakes Crew. After clearing from the oven fire assignment Engine 231 was direct to the brush fire assignment and assisted the crews from Franklin Lakes. The fire was located in a remote wooded area which required crews to navigate some difficult terrain to access the area. Tower Ladder 241 was dispatched along with Mahwah Engine 222 and Midland Park Engine 533 for the coverage assignment at Franklin Lakes Fire Headquaters until the on scene units could be released. All units returned to service at approximately 640pm.-249
