On Sunday December 16 2007 in the late afternoon Dispatch toned out for a reported chimney fire on Wyckoff Avenue. Chief Murphy230 Engine 235Capt Lorusso Truck241DC Brock Engine233Capt Pruim and Rescue 242BC Rose responded to the scene. While enroute Chief Murphy was advised that the police on scene are reporting a smoke condition in the attic and second floor of the home. An additional Engine company was requested as per policy. This request brought in Franklin Lakes Engine335. Chief Murphy arrived on scene as Engine235 was pulling up. Truck 241 laddered the roof and sent crews to investigate the stack while Engine 235s crew investigated the attic area for fire and extension. Engine 233 laid a precautionary dry 5 line from the preceding hydrant to the scene to supply Engine235 if needed. Investigation showed that the chimney stack from the attic to approximately 6 feet outside was completely clogged causing the smoke to back down and eminate from all the seams in the pipe. The fire was removed from the wood burning stove and ventilation was completed. No further action was required and units were released as they became available. Later that evening during the high winds and cold air at approximately 2145 hrs dispatch toned out for a large tree that had fallen onto and into the second floor of a home on Martom Road. Chief Murphy 230 and Truck 241DC Brock and Squad 234 responded. Crews were able to remove sections of the tree that protruded into the home making it easier to tarp and secure the open areas. The home was also checked for carbon monoxide levels as the chimney was also damaged during the incident. After about an hour or so crews safely secured the home and returned.-230
