pThe Wyckoff Fire Department participated in the Northwest Bergen Mutual Aid Field Day hosted by Ridgewood Fire Department at its Fire Headquarters.ppLed by Field Day captain and Co. 1 Lieutenant Brian DeHaas WFD finished third in the chiefs event and did well overall.ppRidgewood held three events. ppThe first tested firefighters rescue skills. Two firemen tied off a stokes basket from the third floor of a tower and lowered it to the second floor where two others loaded three doughnut rolls of hose which was supposed to simulate a downed victim and then lowered it to the ground where the stokes baskets control man unloaded the hose before helping raise the basket to the top of the building.ppThen firefighters went through a grueling five-part relay race. The first participant climbed to the top of the three-story tower pulled up a donut roll of hose on the ground and then climbed back down. ppNext a firefighter climbed through a mini-mask confidence course before tagging the third firefighter.nbspUsing a sledgehammer this person knocked a lognbspthrough a wooden pathway lined with rails and then flipped a tire down a parking lot.ppThe fourth firefighter weaved through cones carrying irons and a water can before a dummy drag and the last firefighter advanced a charged line and knocked down three cones.brppFirefighters finished off the day with the aforementioned chiefs event. Starting as a rolling response two firefighters eventually took an inch-and-three-quarter line to the second floor and shot water out of the building and into a bucket on the ground until it passed a line.ppAside from Lieutenant DeHaas Co. 1 captain Jimmy AbmanbspWill Pettit Steve KopshawnbspNick Pruiksma and Paul Kasabian made up the team.ppOakland FD won first place overall.p
